Plans

wp464 01 BG cabbage 20231230 800Do you ever make plans, wp464 02 BG please 20231230 800
look forward to something — wp464 03 BG backlit roses 20231230 800
perhaps a mini vacation or retreat or event — wp464 04 BG rose w drop 20231230 800
but then something completely out of your control thwarts those plans? wp464 05 BG heather 20231230 800

Fantastical Feast

wp409 01 LS stone dinner1 20221111 copy
Holidays are times when loved ones gather around all kinds of tables eating all manner of foods — traditional, experimental, nostalgic, symbolic. wp409 02 LS stone dinner2 20221111 copy
But there’s something a bit suspicious about this feast. wp409 03 LS stone dinner3 20221111 copy
The eggs look a little too shiny, wp409 04 LS stone dinner4 20221111 copy
the Swiss cheese and ham a bit stiff, wp409 05 LS stone dinner5 20221111 copy
and why isn’t the butter melting? wp409 06 LS stone dinner6 20221111 copy
It could be because I’m at the Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics in Fort Bragg, California, where “breaking bread” is done with a masonry sawwp409 07 LS stone dinner7 20221111 copy
and eating after-dinner pie will require an emergency dental visit.
wp409 08 LS stone dinner8 20221111 copyThat’s because all the food is made of stone. So count your blessings when you sit down to your fantastical feast this year. At least it’s edible!

Pondering Plants

wp408 01 green rosettes 20220919 1200Plants comfort me. wp408 02 red green spike 20220921 1200
I’m unsure why they make me feel comforted. wp408 03 pink dahlia 20220919 1200
Perhaps a sunny disposition, wp408 04 wooly cactus 20220919 1200
a sense of humor, wp408 05 fava 20221213 1200
or an inherited shyness. wp408 06 purple asters 20220919 1200
Of course, I’m anthropomorphizing these “bringers of consolation.” wp408 07 red chard 20220919 1200
But as a human, I’m practically programmed to do so, wp408 08 shaggy crysanthamum 20221213 1200
because it makes me feel connected. wp408 09 borage 20221213 1200
I can even become “one” with an edible plant wp408 10 Brussel's sprout2 20221213 1200
by ingesting it, wp408 11 Brussel's sprout1 20221213 1200
bringing a new meaning to “comfort food.” wp408 12 green lantern 20221213 1200
Maybe plants bring solace because they radiate life wp408 13 pail o flowers 20220919 1200
even in death.

Listening for Divine Wisdom

wp373 01 sink 20220308 1200What do a sink, a buoy and a caterpillar have in common? Good question. Perhaps we’ll discover more as we listen.

Bathroom sink: I provide water with the touch of a handle. The Water of Life is just as easy to access, simply turn your attention to The Divine. wp373 02 buoy from boat 20220328 1200
Buoy with napping seals: Come to me and I will give you rest if you feel worn out by swimming in choppy seas. wp373 03 tiger moth caterpillar 20220330 1200
Tiger moth caterpillar: I move steadily until I find my next source of food, for I am determined to transform. wp373 04 eye step 20220322 1200
Wood grain eye: The eye of God sees all and loves all. wp373 05 lemons 20220308 1200
Lemons: Isn’t it obvious? Make the most of what you’re given. wp373 06 squid whisk 20220328 1200
Squid whisk and Starfish tile: Don’t be afraid to feel out of place; you have a divine purpose. wp373 07 wood fish bench 20220330 1200
Carved fish: When you feel stuck in one place, move the mountains around you. wp373 08 conifer buds 20220403 1200

Foot Rest Wisdom

wp258 01 Willem's trees 20191019_164458I’m on “foot rest.” Podiatrist’s orders. So I’m walking with my fingers instead—strolling through recent odds-and-ends-photos. What do the pictures have to say? This moody landscape says: even when you are “on top of the world,” clouds may still form. Incorporate those clouds into your enjoyment of the view.

wp258 02 brass marker Sequoia 20191003_140446Survey marker: Look up. Look down. Look around. You’re always somewhere. Perhaps where you should be.

wp258 03 2 pretzels, gourdPretzel and gourd: some individuals will go to unusual lengths to stay connected. Are you one of them?

wp258 04 Chinese temple Mendo1Chinese temple: You don’t need to occupy a lot of space to be a meaningful contribution to the world.

wp258 05 2 dog, GuiseppeA dog and my mother’s cat, Giuseppe: Feel the texture of who we are. As you let your love flow into us, it flows out to the world.

wp258 06 crab, snail 20191024_153751Crab claw: Grasping will only get you so much; letting go brings lasting peace.

wp258 07 2 chard, cypressChard and cypress: Grow into what you are destined to be. You know deep inside that the design was always there.

wp258 08 tree ringsWood: Respect the rings. Every year you live makes you more complete.

wp258 09 dogwood fruit, Sequoia 20191003Dogwood: Celebrate every season, for there is delight in each stage of life.
