Tafoni is the name of the honeycombed lacework decorating rocks at Salt Point State Park in Sonoma County, California.
Just when I think creation can’t get any better, I am once again astounded.
The precarious shapes,
complex patterns
and paper-thin ridges seem so . . . un-rocklike.
And there’s a sense of time passing in large chunks as my eye wanders from the beginning stages of tafoni forming like a topographical map
emerging in three dimensions
and protruding outwards.
But the exact opposite is happening; wind and salt are wearing away the stone. The Great Sculptor is removing to create.
What do I need carefully cut away to let my beauty emerge?
Much of what I cling to is unnecessary. Dare I let the Great Sculptor work on me?
